Grades 4-8
According to USFirst:
“Friendly competition is at the heart of [FLL] Challenge, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. As part of Challenge, teams also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.”
This competition typically kicks-off in early August, though your team can start preparing earlier or join later. Teams must be comprised of 2-10 students, though 4-6 is ideal so that everyone is engaged and contributing.
There are currently two ways to participate in Melrose FLL:
- Find or create a parent-run team. Write to melrosefirstrobotics@gmail.com to find out more info about existing teams or how to create one. Successful teams typically meet once a week from some time in August through early December. Don’t worry if you don’t feel capable of running a team, the iRaiders have plenty of support people to help you along the way.
- Join the MVMMS team. This team for 6th and 7th graders is run by a teacher at the middle school and meets after school in a classroom.
