Interested in science, building, and creating? Signup now! Besides being a pathway for interest in STEM, the Melrose robotics teams allow for students to discover and develop skills such as teamwork, collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking. Melrose public schools offer a robotics program for students interested. This program takes the form of a club during the school year. The elementary team, First Lego League (FLL), is open to all 4th and 5th graders. FLL takes a fun approach to robotics by using legos to bring student’s imagination to life. Along with building and coding, students will get the opportunity to show off their robot by participating in competitions. What they create will be displayed to more than just Melrose!

We are looking to recruit more students for this upcoming school year. During June, the high school robotics team will be visiting elementary schools to demonstrate what robotics is and how the FLL team works. We hope these visits will stimulate interest towards elementary students to join. But not only students, parents included! The FLL team is possible thanks to all parents and individuals who volunteer to coach and mentor. If you also have a passion for STEM, or just want to have the experience of a lifetime by helping and teaching students, please consider joining an FLL team as a coach. If you are interested but unsure of where to start, we have an experienced mentor who is more than willing to train and prepare future mentors. Everyone is welcomed! The same applies for all robotics teams. We are hoping both students and parents are interested in joining for this upcoming year. If you are considering joining, please fill out this form. FLL opens many doors to students. Once in middle school, the FLL team (open to 6th and 7th graders) takes a step beyond legos by adding motors, computers, and sensors. The middle school robotics team VEX is another step students can take if interested in diving further into engineering and computing. Signup for VEX. Students get to compete in World Championships! The VEX team is a great opportunity to further polish STEM skills and get a feel for the high school robotics team.
